Grade 6
Clouds and Ladders
“Oh, look. It’s a pig!”
“No, no. It’s a smiley face!”
Do you like to lie on your back and look at clouds? I do. My sister Elizabeth and I like to lie on our trampoline and watch the clouds. We each have different opinions on what the clouds look like. Sometimes I like to imagine myself walking on the clouds, or picking up the small, delicate, white balls. Other times, I imagine I have a ladder that continually goes up into the clouds.
Our spiritual walk is like a ladder that leads to the clouds and on to Jesus. When we fall or mess up, or get on the wrong ladder, we have to start over again.
I did a survey in our class to see if dark clouds make students gloomy or not. More than half of us said that dark clouds can make us feel gloomy. I know they affect my mood. When I’m gloomy, my attitude changes toward God, too. Sometimes God reminds me of something I’m doing that I know is wrong. I tend to want to ignore the little conscience in my head that is saying, “Hannah, you know that is wrong; don’t do it.”
Thankfully, we have a patient God who says, “It’s OK, I forgive you.” He then helps us back onto that ladder again.
Psalm 33:20 says: “Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield” (NKJV). We basically have a free pass up the ladder because God is there with us holding our hands. So we need to keep climbing that ladder until the day Jesus comes in the clouds to save us. I know I want to be with Him. What about you?
“Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory” (Mark 13:26 NKJV).
